I know what you’re probably thinking…”Edwina, you’re a midwife. Of course, you’d have the whole birth thing figured out!”
But you know what? During my first birth with Polly, there were times when I felt completely underprepared. I knew what it was like to deliver someone else’s baby as a midwife, but I didn’t understand what it was truly like to be a birthing mother. That and I’d totally robbed my husband Ross of the opportunity to understand what was happening either as I’d foolishly told him that he needn’t bother with birth classes as I was a midwife and the one birthing our baby, so it was all under control.
Yeah. In hindsight, that was a little silly! You’ll hear about it all about it on Australian Birth Stories…
My two birth experiences were completely different, but I can honestly say, that after creating Birth Beat and developing all the content, the birth of my son Theo was a genuinely enjoyable day. Worth mentioning that he was a big boy too, almost 10 pounds!
