Pregnancy In Lockdown

There’s no doubt that our day-to-day lifestyle has changed majorly over the last year or so. If you’re pregnant in lockdown, or even just in these times, you may be feeling a range of emotions about how it could affect you, your baby, your pregnancy care and even your birth experience.

Here at Birth Beat, we want to do what we can to help you and be here to support you. I’m going to share some important things you need to know about pregnancy in lockdown. PLUS, we are having a lockdown sale on our online courses so you can educated in the comfort and safety of your own home!

Be kind to yourself and others

First things first. Over the last couple of weeks I have seen a lot of judgement, anger and fear. What I feel we could do with a little bit more of is kindness, compassion and understanding. To others, but importantly ourselves as well. Yes, yourself – particularly to those currently impacted by lockdown. Take some time (I know it can be tough) to also look after you!

It may be as simple as ordering Uber eats and watching a movie in bed. My happy place is a bath with wine, facemask and a snickers bar.

Impact on Pregnancy Care

Depending on where you live, your pregnancy care may be impacted differently. It’s important to remember that you will still receive regular check ups and appointments. Some of the things that might be done differently include:

– Some appointments may be conducted via phone call or video call.
– You may have to attend some face-to-face appointments on your own. (Your support person may be able to call you during your appointment if they would like to be involved).
– You may need to wear a mask.

Impact on Birth Experience

Childbirth Education:

Birth education has a massive impact on your birth experience. Understanding the whole process and knowing what to expect can give your knowledge and confidence while alleviating your fears! This is not something you want to miss out on.

Some hospitals may cancel their antenatal classes, or you may feel uncomfortable or worried about attending face-to-face classes in this time.

Please don’t stress about this, remember Birth Beat provides The Ultimate Online Birth Course which covers everything you need to know in the lead up to your birth and those first few weeks with your baby. The course is delivered through video content that can be watched at any time in the comfort and safety of your own home! You can learn more about it here. Get the promo code below for $50 off!

Your hospital experience:

Depending where you live, you may have different restrictions or rules to follow while in hospital. Some examples of may include:

– Women may be restricted to 1 support person (other than staff e.g. midwife) while giving birth.
– Support people and staff may be required to where a mask.
– In some places, your support person may not be allowed back into the hospital if they decide to leave after the birth. If you would like your them to stay with you, make sure you come fully prepared so they do not need to leave – pack them a bag with snacks etc too!

To make sure you know what to expect, contact your hospital to find out what their restrictions and rules are.

Please remember that hospitals are being super cautious in this time and doing everything they can for the health of you, your baby, and everyone else in their care.
